Our Lavender Farm
A short about explanation from the farm;
Our family has been farming in the Darenth Valley since 1892, when our ancestors brought 17 milking cows down by train from Ayrshire in Scotland.
Today, the farm is managed by the current generation of our family, with involvement from all members and support from the dedicated Castle Farm team. Over the years, a wide variety of crops have been cultivated here, including Savoy Cabbage, Plums, Lucerne, Parsnips, Marrows, Potatoes, as well as Apples and Hops, which we continue to grow today.
The Lavender enterprise started in 1998, focusing on the production of essential oils. We have since become the largest Lavender farm in the UK, cultivating over 130 acres of this fragrant purple flower!
Energy efficiency at our Partner farm
Clover is currently being introduced into all the grass pastures to reduce the need for artificial nitrogen. Manure is spread back onto the land to enhance soil fertility. Fuel efficiency has been improved through the use of minimal cultivation techniques, which conserve energy by eliminating the need for deep ploughing each year.
they also generate electricity with two solar panel installations on the farm buildings.
Recycling at the Farm
Packaging is re-used on-farm whenever possible. Surplus cardboard, batteries, plastics, paper, metals and oils are all segregated into different waste streams, then recycled.
